FAU and IME were represented in a meeting with the Dean of Research and Innovation

On September 25, 2023, the first meeting of the USP Training Program in Academic Management of Research Projects (FGA) took place at the USP Innovation Center (InovaUSP), promoted by the Dean of Research and Innovation (PRPI USP). The opening lecture of the meeting was given by the President of the Brazilian Association of Research Managers, Juliana Juk Susnik, who talked about the challenges of the research management profession, especially in academic environments.

The Architecture and Urbanism College of the University of São Paulo (FAU USP) and the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo (IME USP) were represented by Dr. Camila Silva, a FGA fellow who works in both institutions, and by one of her supervisors, Prof. Dr. Alfredo Goldman from IME USP, coordinator of the Thematic Project “Trends in High Performance Computing: from resource management to new computer architectures” financed by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). So, already Prof. Artur Rozestraten of the FAU USP who coordinates the FAPESP Thematic Project “Arquigrafia Experience 4.0”, which also has the collaboration of the FGA scholarship holder.

The event was attended by ten FGA Program scholarship holders from different University campuses, as well as several of their supervisors who are also coordinators of FAPESP Thematic Projects benefiting from the FGA Program. Prof. Susana Inés Cordoba de Torresi, Dean of Research, and Prof. Raul Gonzalez Lima, Dean of Innovation, were representing Prof. Paulo Alberto Nussenzveig, Dean of Research and Innovation at USP.

The FGA Program was created in August 2022 by PRPI USP and implemented in 2023 with the aim of designating PhD researchers to meet the need for training qualified professionals for the academic management of large research projects. The Program aims to optimize the time of main researchers, giving greater international competitiveness to research and promoting the advancement of various areas of knowledge and innovation of the University.

Project coordinated by Prof. Hermes Senger has funding approved by FINEP

The project entitled "Next Generation Seismic Inversion Acceleration", coordinated by Prof. Hermes Senger (UFSCar), was approved in a FINEP public call for development of technologies for offshore exploration and production of oil and gas. The objective of the proposal is to develop techniques on two main fronts, which are high-performance computing and artificial intelligence to accelerate and improve the quality of computational applications of seismic imaging. The budget is approximately 5 million reais for 4 years. The resources must be applied in the hiring of human resources (fellowships and software developers), purchase of equipment and HPC service in the cloud. The project is scheduled to start in the second half of 2023.
